My neighbour Nancy Brown, who first drew my attention to Anthony’s connections with well-known Catholics, has found another interesting reference:
[Ralph Sheldon] ‘enjoyed lifelong friendship with Anthony Blencowe president of Oriel College, Oxford, member of the committee to whom Sir Thomas Bodley entrusted the execution of his designs for a library, to which Sheldon gave £50. It seems to have been Blencowe who requested Ralph to supply the chainman to forge the chains with which to secure the newly acquired books to the shelves.’
