When farmer William Lockhart started digging up his drive, he never imagined that he would find a treasure trove at the bottom of his garden. But an inquest on his find ruled that it was "treasure trove" and Mr. Lockhart, of Blencowe Hall, Blencowe, will be able to keep either the six 22-carat gold coins he turned up, or their value, about £2,000. The coins were found in the foundations of an old wall and date from the reign of James I.
The Herald, of Oct 27th 2007. Found by Emily Blencowe in the local newspaper when in Cumbria recently.
