Blencowe Families’ Association Newsletter Vol. 23 No. 1 February 2008

Letter from the Editor

Dear Cousins,

Jack never thought it would happen but I’ve had word from him that he has mailed off the last copy of the Blencowe book. He estimates he must have packed and mailed at least half a ton of them and is not sorry to see the end of it! As they were stored in his garage, I guess Kee is more tha happy to see the last one go! There may still be two or three copies available in USA and one or two in Australia.

On behalf of you all, I’d like to thank Jack Blencowe and his contributors for undertaking that massive project that has proved so beneficial to so many of us, the like of such will probably not be attempted again in our lifetimes. Twenty one authors contributed to the book covering a very wide spectrum of the family.

Blencowe Families book is a superb production and a fine family heirloom. THE BLENCOWE FAMILIES: The Descendants of the Blencowe Families of Cumbria and Northamptonshire, was edited by Jack (Dr. J.W. Blencowe) with a limited edition of 1,000 copies and first published in 2001. All the copies are numbered making each book individual and extra special. Now watch how they leap in value!

THE BOOK, as it has become affectionately known, has inspired many people to continue and write the history of their twig, using its contents for basic background information. When you do this, please consider donating a copy to the BFA archives for posterity.

I look forward to meeting many of you in Port Macquarie in April.
