Blencowe Families’ Association Newsletter | Vol. 22 No. 4 November 2007 |
It is always appreciated when contributors get feedback from their articles. Phil Baileyís Diary of Alfred Horley and Louisa Blencowe's migratory trip to Australia received a few comments including a letter from Clive Blencowe of Worcester.
..I was interested in the Alfred Horley article in the latest Newsletter. The name, Horley, rang a bell. Maria Horley was married to my Great Grandfather, John Blencowe on the 5th November 1876 at Ufton Parish Church. She was 21 years and he was 19. The odd part on the marriage certificate was Mariaís father was given as Jonah Gammage and her occupation as a housemaid. The Census for 1901 has Maria's birth place as Radford, a district of Coventry in Warwickshire.
Both parties are sorting out their Horley lines to see if they find a match. A birth certificate has been sort for Maria which could provide the connecting information.
