Blencowe Families’ Association Newsletter | Vol. 23 No. 4 November 2008 |
After spending three interesting days based in the village of Blencow, the possibility of a reunion based there in 2010 has turned into a probability.
Though 2010 seems a long time ahead, the booking of Blencow Hall and travel arrangements for our Australian and American relations need to be planned well in advance.
The dates proposed are Saturday, Sunday and Monday June 26th, 27th and 28th 2010. Booking of Blencow Hall needs to be confirmed 18 months ahead. (This means by the coming New Year.)
Only 22 people can be accommodated at the Hall in 11 luxurious double rooms with twin or double beds and these places are offered on a first come first served basis. I fear there are no single rooms. Those of you booking at the Hall must commit yourselves to three nights there. The costs for those 3 nights, including a simple breakfast, should be covered by £180 per person.
So that I can confirm the booking I am asking for a non refundable deposit of £50 to be paid on booking your room in the Hall. (Australian $120 & U.S $80 payable to Anne or Walter). For those planning to come, but only able to stay less or wanting more than 3 nights, or after cheaper accommodation, there are plenty of local B & Bs, a list of which I will provide later.
Over the three days various visits and activities are being planned. These include dinner on Saturday evening at the Blencow village hall, provided by the local inn, a Sunday afternoon tea party in the gardens of Blencow Hall, and a tour of Greystoke Castle on Monday morning. These will obviously need to be charged separately. Hopefully we can visit the old Blencow railway station, featured in the last newsletter, and there will be free time to drive to Hadrian's Wall, Penrith, Carlisle and other local attractions. More information later.
To sum up, all that is required at this early date is that those who would like to have 3 nights in our historic and luxurious family seat, let me, (or Anne or Walter) know (+ deposit) as soon as possible, so that we can confirm that this reunion based on Blencow Hall can go ahead.
Only 22 can sleep there so the first 22 that book will secure their places.
