Blencowe Families’ Association Newsletter | Vol. 25 No. 1 February 2010 |
It is now less than six months until our reunion in June centred on Blencow in Cumbria. As this year sees the 25th Anniversary of the Founding of the Association, what better place to celebrate the event than at Blencow itself!
To remind those who are thinking of joining us, the reunion lasts three days, from Saturday June 26th to Monday June 28th. A celebration Buffet Dinner is planned for Saturday evening in the village hall, provided by the Crown Inn. A tea party in the gardens of Blencow Hall on Sunday afternoon will allow members to see around the Hall. A guided tour of Greystoke Castle on Monday morning will complete the programme.
It will be necessary to make a charge for these three events, and details of these are shown on the enclosed form which should accompany this newsletter. If you are planning to join us, I would be grateful if you could complete the enclosed form if you have not already done so. We need to know numbers for these events.
We hope also to hold a simple Blencowe Family Thanksgiving Service in Greystoke Church on Sunday morning and if there is enough interest a visit to Dalemain Hall and Dacre Church on Monday late afternoon.
Reunions, I believe, should not be over organized, for members will need time to just meet each other and explore the neighbourhood. Carlisle, Hadrianís Wall, Penrith and Ullswater are all within easy reach. Nearer to home, members might be interested to visit Blencow Railway Station, Hutton-in-the-Forest, Upfront Gallery and Puppet Theatre and the Alpaca Centre. I will have leaflets available on these and other attractions. Information about travel, car hire, and local accommodation are all listed in earlier newsletter but please give me a ring if you need further information. For those who have booked a room at Blencow Hall, I enclose a request for the balance owing. If you have changed plans, please let me know as soon as possible, as I have an eager waiting list. If you wish to come to the reunion and have not received information, please get in touch with either Walter in America, Anne in Australia or myself in the UK.
