Port Macquarie Reunion — Possible Program

Please note all costs are in Australian Dollars.

Pre- reunion option

As people from overseas or interstate will likely travel via Sydney before progressing to Port Macquarie, the Johnson and Bailey families of Sydney have volunteered to organise a day to introduce you to their beautiful city.

Tuesday 22 April 20

9:00 An organised walk in the scenic Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens for 90 minutes viewing unique flora and covering the gardens' history. (Definite numbers needed). After morning tea harbour side, options will depend on your interests but may include:

Our hosts would accompany different interest groups if needed.

Day One: Friday 25 April

The Anzac services are not part of the Reunion Program as such but have been included as an invitation to overseas visitors to experience a little Aussie / Kiwi culture.

5:30. Dawn Anzac Service. This is generally a very moving ceremony taking about 30 minutes: timed to conclude as the sun peeps up over the water. We will lay a wreath in honour of family members who died at war. Ex-service men & women may then attend a Gunfire Breakfast at Panthers Club. We will need numbers.

6:45: A barbecue breakfast probably on the beach. Cost approximately $2

11:00. Anzac March along Town Green to Cenotaph for service.

From 12 noon: Reunion Registration at the Westport Club, Buller Street Port Macquarie.

Lunch available in Club Bistro / Dining Room from $7.00 at own cost

1.00 The official start of the Reunion

6:30 pm Dinner This will be an informal gathering at own cost. Venue to be decided.

Day Two: Saturday 26 April

9:00 Westport Club venue opens for our use. Morning tea provided, lunch at own cost

Family history talks and genealogy groups (if required) will continue as for Friday while others socialise or participate in activities as suggested later.

2:00 to 4:00 Devonshire Tea Cruise aboard the Port Venture with a fully licensed bar and carrying up to 250 passengers. The Hastings River, with its expansive waterways, is the perfect backdrop for getting to know your distant cousins as you cruise “up river”, passing contemporary canal residences, oyster leases and farmland. You may even be followed by dolphins. Cost $18 per adult (normally $25) Free boom netting included, so bring your swimmers if you wish — change rooms onboard.

6:30pm Reunion Dinner: A two course meal with bar service for $40 per head. Partygoers may like to continue on at one of the local nightclubs.

Day Three: Sunday 27 April

9:00 to 4:00 at Westport Club

People are invited to participate in tourist and adventure activities either as individuals or in groups throughout the weekend. If enough of you express an interest in a particular activity we will arrange a group booking and negotiate a good price as we did for the cruise. It will then be slotted into the program as an optional extra.

Please be aware that while Port Macquarie offers many commercial activities you should not overlook the simple pleasures of a few hours on the beach — Life savers will be on duty at 3 of them; tossing a line in from the beach, riverbank or breakwall; the very scenic coastal walks and the town walk incorporating historic places of interest. This need not be an expensive holiday.

Please help with our planning by returning a Registration/Expression of Interest form.
